Interesting, a religious Friday
Five! I can’t resist.
1. Were you raised in a particular religious faith?
Yes, I was born and raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints.
2. Do you still practice that faith? Why or why not?
Yes, I do. I practice it because I know it’s true. I’ve experienced too
much to ever doubt it.
3. What do you think happens after death?
Oh, yikes. Don’t ask a Mormon this if you don’t have a while. To put it
very, very briefly, when we die will all go to the Spirit World to
await resurrection– after resurrection, everyone will inherit a degree
of glory, except for the Sons of Perdition, who go to outer darkness.
Most of us won’t have to worry about the Sons of Perdition thing. You
have to be really, really, good in order to go that bad.
4. What is your favorite religious ritual (participating in or just
observing)?
Oh, that’s tough. I’d have to say that I loved going through
the temple– it was wonderful, and peaceful. But I think I’m going to
have to say I like taking the sacrament every week. A weekly renewal of
covenants– a new beginning. And a chance to sit quietly and think
about the Savior.
5. Do you believe people are basically good?
Yes. And no. I believe that we all have the Light of Christ, which
guides us to do good. On the other hand, when Adam fell, men fell– and
became an enemy to God. Part of what we’re here for is to overcome
man’s natural tendency to evil. We’re striving to be something better
than what we are.
