Dear Ms. Bytheway:
On behalf of the Nimbus – 2003 Programming Committee, we are pleased to
notify you that your proposed panel for a shipping debate (tentatively
titled “Sail on Good Ship”) has been accepted for presentation in the fandom
culture track at the first ever Harry Potter Symposium, “Nimbus – 2003,” in
Orlando, Florida from July 17-20, 2003. We have accepted 2 debaters for
each of the Ron/Hermione and Harry/Hermione side of the debate, and we’ve
contacted a potential moderator for the debate. Based on your submission,
you would be slated as the second-chair debater for the Ron/Hermione ship.
Angua better be the first chair. That’s all I’m saying.
Now I can start getting nervous about the fact that I’m representing the Good Ship R/H without ever having officially signed on as crew. I guess I’m a stowaway.

Yay! Just got a confirmation e-mail from Nimbus.
Turns out there were a couple of other proposals on the same topic, so they’d like to combine them into one 90-min panel. Some of the people are from California Baptist University. A Mormon and a Baptist. That’s going to be interesting.
Anyway, details soon. I’m at work and can’t post the text of the e-mail. They addressed it to Dr. Walker (but I entered my e-mail when I submitted, so it came to me), who isn’t actually attending the conference, so I hope they’re not too dissapointed that a Ph. D. isn’t going to be *on* the panel.
No word on the R/H vs. H/H debate panel, but I’m sure I’m in. There weren’t very many R/H’ers last time I checked.
Elizabeth: Every time you open a new comments window, it should re-submit the information to the server. However, if that isn’t working, try right-clicking in the comments window itself. The pop-up menu should have a “refresh” command, and you can manually refresh it that way. I’ll try and bug my brother into figuring out why you can’t see new comments, but in the meantime, that should work. I still want to redesign my site, but haven’t had time to mess around with templates.

I went to my first Floral Design lab today. Created a beautiful bouquet of spray roses, carnations, daisy mums, heather, waxflowers, statice, and aster. And addressed the card to myself. No one else ever gives me flowers, so I must provide my own.
I’m really liking that class. So much fun, and very little pressure. In fact, I love all my classes. Today in World Dance we learned a polka from the Czech Republic. I love to polka, although it wears me out and makes me dizzy.
But it’s a blast all the same.
Wolf will be happy to know that we learned an Israeli dance the other day– “Yibanei Hamigkdash.” It was very cool, and very fun. Do you do much folk dance, Wolf?

Okay, not really. I did do some breaking and entering last night, but since it was into my own apartment, I don’t think it counts.
See, usually when I get home from work on Tuesdays, my sisters are already home. So I don’t usually bother bringing my keys. However, yesterday Lisa and Laura decided to drive up to Salt Lake to go to Tio’s, our favorite Mexican restaurant, in celebration of Lisa’s getting 100% on her math test (Go Lisa!). Anyway, they left at about 5, which meant that when I got home at 6 the apartment was locked. And I didn’t have my keys. I was also supposed to pick my roommate up from work just before 7, so she could get home in time for Gilmore Girls; and I wanted to stop at Panda Express on my way. Driving the car would also require keys, however. My first thought was to go to the office and borrow the pass key, but it was closed, and the manager’s apartment was dark. My next thought was to go to my brother’s apartment, borrow his keys to Lizzy, take the car to Panda Express and pick up Jen, who would have her keys with her and be able to unlock the door. But Ben wasn’t home, and he also wasn’t answering his cell phone.
As I pondered what to do, I remembered having opened the kitchen window on Friday night, to air out the kitchen after mopping the floor with an ammonia-based cleaner. I left it unlocked.
So, I took to screen off, opened the window, moved the flour and sugar canisters out of the way, and climbed in.
Now I have to decide if it’s better to leave a window unlocked in case it ever happens again, or whether we should lock them all because it’s so ridiculously easy to get in otherwise.
But the Panda Express was good.

I was attacked by a mad ravenous plot bunny last night. So Sirius is going on the back burner for now. I was hopelessly stuck, anyway.
Instead, I’ve got a sequel to Look to Your Dreams rapidly forming. Takes place during the summer after Voldie’s downfall. It will have an actual plot! *gasp* It’s called I Found Love. Chapter One is going to be called “Return to Privet Drive.”
Heheh.
I’m going to start writing now, instead of reading Mansfield Park like I should.

My homework this weekend was to finish Northanger Abbey and start Mansfield Park.
Now that’s what I call homework.

I recently realized that I forgot a fandom when I did my character list. Let me correct that now.
So, in David Eddings’ Belgariad and Mallorean, the character I most:
Identified with?
Queen Layla.
Found attractive?
Garion. I know, I know. I can’t help it.
Hated or were thoroughly annoyed by?
I didn’t like Salmissra at all, and Torak was a bit of a jerk.
Adored in a platonic sense?
Silk, aka Prince Kheldar. He’s hilarious.

I always feel like dancing when I come out of a musical.
Just saw Crazy For You at BYU. It was great fun. I love musicals. I want to live in one. Some people think I do live in one, but that’s beside the point. Don’t you wish that you could burst into song with a full orchestra behind you sometimes? Don’t you want to start dancing and singing, and everyone else can join in because they all know the steps and the words?
I guess I’m weird.
Anyway, I love Crazy for You. It’s got Gershwin, good jokes, tap dancing, and Gershwin!
Who could ask for anything more?

my eye. Leslie has stated that she’s sick of snow. I probably would be too, at this point, if we’d actually had any. I think we’ve gotten a total of 4 inches since November. It’s ridiculous. I’ve been walking around in my sweater, for heaven’s sake! January weather is not supposed to be sweater weather!
Our daffodils are sprouting!
Leslie, can we talk to the weather gurus and have them send some of your snow our way? ‘Cause we’re shaping up to enter our 5th straight year of drought.
