Crazy for Crazy for You!

January 23rd, 2003 · 3 Comments

I always feel like dancing when I come out of a musical. :)

Just saw Crazy For You at BYU. It was great fun. I love musicals. I want to live in one. Some people think I do live in one, but that’s beside the point. Don’t you wish that you could burst into song with a full orchestra behind you sometimes? Don’t you want to start dancing and singing, and everyone else can join in because they all know the steps and the words?

I guess I’m weird.

Anyway, I love Crazy for You. It’s got Gershwin, good jokes, tap dancing, and Gershwin!

Who could ask for anything more?

All through your young life, I have told you that you get this weirdness from your mom’s side of the family. However, in the case of this musical fixation that you have, I might be persuaded to say that you got it from MY side of the family.

I am forced to admit my inability to dance cost me several good leads! Worked in my favor though with Jesus Christ SS. Priests need not dance un-like the apostles and I wanted to be one of the 5 bad guys. Never was a bad guy before. It was fun. Of course we ended up also sticking me in the leper scene (leper of course) and the temple scene (floozy…did that in Joseph and Dream Coat along with one of Jacobs wives). But all in all he wanted my loud pipes more than anything. I fell in love with the stage at 14. Not to mention a senior and a junior with leads. 8-) Paul Spencer played King Arthur and I was hooked on Musicals from then on. Ironically I dated his brother for six months but that’s another story!

Made for movies…My Fair Lady is still # 1 in my book.

Brigadoon comes in close second. I still can’t think about heather and highlands without seeing Gene Kelly and Van Johnson? Can’t remember…oh oh he’s a red headed strapping man.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers also very good.

    Never did like Oklahoma! Blaaaak.

And life is not complete until you’ve seen Cabaret! On stage is much better but Liza made it worth putting on screen.

I could name about a dozen others but I’ll spare everyone my ramblings.
