The temptation is killing me. . .

September 4th, 2003 · No Comments

There is an entirely too delectable-looking donut sitting next to my computer screen. I’ve already eaten one, and my supervisors won’t take ‘no’ for an answer when I argue that it will go straight to my thighs. *sigh*

2 more hours of work. Then I can go home and think about Albus Dumbledore’s family. I think his father is named Geoffrey Endymion. At least, those are his first 2 names. :P

Lots of completely random stuff.

September 1st, 2003 · 1 Comment

Thank you to all who offered your congratulations! I’m still in a state of shock over the whole thing. I think the best thing about the contest is a few residual reviews on my other fics, and a renewed sense of urgency in writing my other fics I have stewing.

Have spent the afternoon cleaning, more or less. Cleaning my room and cleaning off my computer. Poor Harry is groaning under the weight of too many e-mails, among other things. I need to do a full backup and then reload his hard drive from scratch.

On that note, my laptop is still out of commission, which means that I won’t be online as much as I have lately. Especially on AIM and Y!M, etc. I have no idea how long this will last, but I hope not long. It also means that I can’t access much of what I had on Ginny’s hard drive, at least until my dad recovers from his surgery sufficiently to copy stuff from the hard drive. So Lou, that means that I can’t upload the two other icons I made for you. Shame, that. They’re really cool, too. :)

Have been listening to Frederica while I’ve been cleaning. It’s very good, so far. After I’m done I’ll need to find more Heyers, as I’ll be fresh out. Pity, that.

The mountain of stuff in my room has been reduced to a foothill. Pretty good progress, actually.

My best friend, Jen, has chopped her hair rather dramatically. It used to be past her waist, it’s now just above her shoulders. It looks really cute, though. I haven’t seen her in short hair for a very long time. She looks rather like an older Bonnie Wright, making her resemblance to Ginny even more dramatic. My own hair has spent a great deal of time at that length, and while I’m still rather enjoying the novelty of having long hair, I’ll probably end up cutting it back eventually.

Jen, I, and my sisters went to see Pirates again this weekend. Definitely as good the 7th time as the 1st. I still need to see it with Lilac
sometime. Can’t do it next Saturday, as it’s Baptism Saturday, unless we go in the morning or the evening. But soon, right Lilac? Got a different set of previews this time, including one for Peter Pan, which was an unexpected bonus. :) Jason Isaacs looks wonderfully menacing as Captain Hook. I’m very much looking forward to it.

I uncovered a $10 certificate for Barnes and Noble, and am making all sorts of plans on how to spend it. Hmmm.

Speaking of spending money, I ordered the Pirates soundtrack from Amazon the other day, as it’s practically impossible to find locally. Also ordered a GRE study book that I had planned on buying anyway, and therefore qualified for free Super Saver shipping, which means that it will take longer for me to get them, but I’m not in any real hurry.

I’ve been resolutely avoiding the DT, and am much better for it, I believe. Funny for me to be abandoning it after coming out so dramatically at Nimbus.

I’ve been trying to brush up on my French for graduate school. I might even attempt to read my French HP translations. It would certainly help with my vocabulary, which is where I’m weakest. I also need to dig out my Nouvelle Grammaire Français and re-learn the tenses. *sigh* Learning a foreign language is so hard.

I have too much stuff. I’ve already gone through all of it twice, throwing all sorts of things out, but still I’m having a hard time finding somewhere to put everything. So much of what I have is only used once a year or so, but when the ocassion *does* come up, I need it, so I can’t think of throwing it out.

I’m only half-reluctant to go to work tomorrow. I don’t want to get up at 6, to be sure, but I’m liking working. I’ll like it even more when I get my first paycheck, which won’t be for another 2 weeks. There’s a full two-week delay at the State. Luckily I still have one Deseret Book paycheck to tide me over.

One of my coworkers has never read Pride and Prejudice. I told her that I’d be more than happy to lend her one of my 6 copies. :)

Okay, enough delaying. Back to work.

So. . .

August 29th, 2003 · 1 Comment

I’m sitting here at work. Everyone in my department is gone. I’ve done everything I need to do (or at least the things I know how and am able to do), and even some things that I don’t need to do. I could walk out of here and no one would be the wiser. But I’d feel guilty.

So instead I’m surfing the internet, which I’m also not supposed to be doing, really. They don’t mind a little incidental internet use, but I’m going much beyond that. It’s their own fault, though. They didn’t give me enough work.

Hmm. 3 minutes. I got here early. I can justify it.

See you at home!

Oh BOY am I tired. . .

August 29th, 2003 · 1 Comment

I was too exhausted on Wednesday to post an update, and too busy yesterday. Besides, my notebook computer is busticated (as my dad would say) and my desktop is currently buried under a pile of clothes, junk, and things I haven’t unpacked from Nimbus. I’m going to have to dig out when I get home. I’m at work right now on a break.

The reason for my tiredness was the BYU football season opener last night– BYU vs. Georgia Tech. We won, and I had a great time, but getting home at 1 and getting up at 6 does not make for a happy Emily, espcially after a week of working full time and trying to adjust to new hours. Blah.

My dad had surgery on his nose yesterday. I don’t know what the actual procedure is called, but we’ve been calling it getting his nose Roto-Rootered. It was outpatient, but I still have barely seen him (because of the game). I imagine he’s in a significant amount of pain. Hopefully it did what it was supposed to.

It’s my best friend’s birthday today, so

Happy Birthday, Jen!

You’re now divisible by 11! Congrats!

This weekend I plan on sleeping a good deal and digging into what I will call, in tribute to Sweeney Agonistes, Mount Doom–otherwise known as the gigantic disaster area that is my room. Will do some playing with Jen as well.

WORX is good. Am learning fast, and most of it is actually pretty interesting.

Break’s over. Gotta go.

Getting up at 6:00 is for the birds.

August 26th, 2003 · 1 Comment

Early to rise and early to bed makes a man healthy, but socially dead (Yakko, “The Wheel of Morality,” Animaniacs). And I’m not sure about the healthy part. I’m dead tired. At least there’s the fact that my Fridays and Saturday nights are completely free, which I could never say before.

My second day was completely different from my first day, work-wise. The people are still really nice, but I was with an entirely different department today. You see, I’m working with one department in the morning, but another one in the afternoon. Well, my afternoon boss was not here yesterday, so I trained all day at my morning job yesterday and all day at my afternoon job today. My morning job is the front desk, general customer service stuff for the whole division. My afternoon job is in pre-litigation, one very small part of the division. Very different types of work. Tomorrow I’ll be starting my switch-off, which in some ways is good because it’ll be harder to get bored when I’m only doing one thing for 4 hours a day.

I’ve got my own cubicle when I’m in prelit, so I get to decorate it. Whoo!

Have not seen Shirtless!Orlando yet. Plan on going to Best Buy after I finish blogging.

It’s very strange for me to see everyone talking about going BAX to school and not have any stories of my own to share. Very strange.

Okay. Going to Best Buy now. :)

My first day at WORX

August 25th, 2003 · 1 Comment

was not too bad. I’m really tired, but I think that has more to do with the fact that I had to get up so early than the actual work.

I work with a Bulgarian lady. I wanted to say “How’s your Quidditch team this year?” but I restrained myself. :)

In the afternoon I logged CHEX for license fees. My total came to $2,987. It’s a sign. :)

My building is one block north of the Salt Lake City library. This is both a wonderful and a dangerous thing.

Best thing about my job? I can wear sandals to WORX. :)

Livejournal Mood Ring

wahlee_98 is worn out.

Sleep when you’re dead! Whether it’s emotionally or physically, you’re exhausted. Have you considered sleeping pills? I took them when I had mono, and they made everything better.

brought to you by . wanna know your livejournal’s mood ring
color? enter your username and hit the button.

*sigh* Unfortunately, I have tried sleeping pills. Tried them when I had mono, too. Didn’t help.

So speaking of sleep, I didn’t get as much last night as I hoped. I was all excited about the fact that I got to sleep in this morning, and then at 8:30 I heard this crash. I get up and look in the bathroom—and there’s a bird sitting on my shampoo bottle. I was too tired to deal with it. Called my dad. He came home from work to let it out. I have a great dad.

Work was long. Gave my notice. Made me kind of sad. Have been working at Deseret Book for the past 3 years. It had it’s rough spots, but overall is the best job I’ve ever had. At least I don’t have to give up the discount. My mom and brother still work for them. :)

Bought some lotion at Bath and Body Works. :) Got body cream of Moonlight Path and the new Coconut Lime Verbena (I know, Angua, I know), as well as body wash of the latter. The deal was 3 for $21. Plus, with any other purchase you could get their new Performance Body Care lines for only $5, which is a lot less than the $12-$15 they’re marked at. So I got some of their Skin Repair Healing Body Butter in Coconut Lime Verbena and Hand Repair Cream in Moonlight Path. I’m calling it a I’m-Now-Empolyed-and-Can-Splurge-a-Little Present to myself. :) In the same vein I plan on purchasing the BBC/A&E companion edition of Pride and Prejudice that I’ve been coveting for 3 years but haven’t been able to justify as I own 5 other copies of it. But it has Colin Firth on the cover!

And that makes it worth it, right?
