The t-shirts are not done.

October 2nd, 2003 · No Comments

I was planning on driving down to Provo today and get the shirts made and mailed, but I didn’t make it. I was waiting for quatre_sama to send me her address because I just *know* that if I don’t get them mailed immediately after I get them made they’ll sit around on my floor for the next several months. Just ask Lou, who never actually did get her package (I took everything to Nimbus instead), and Teri (HAH! I knew you’d cave eventually, Teri. :P ), whose package that was promised back in November just got mailed 2 days ago. So, q_sama, it really is in your best interest to get me your address before tomorrow morning. :P

Anyway, by the time I gave up on hearing from quatre_sama, and bought the shirts themselves, it was 3:30. I got on the freeway, and the traffic was terrible. I realized that by the time I got to Provo it would be 5:00 at least, and they close at 5:30, which would mean that they probably wouldn’t have enough time to do the shirts today and I’d have to go down again tomorrow anyway. So I’ll just go down tomorrow morning. Maybe I can convince Jen to come with me and check out some books from the BYU library for me. :)

Last night Lilac and I had a little mini-summit we called SQUIB– Sugar Quillers United in Idolizing Bloom. :P I am happy to say that she and I are both still loyal Turnerites. :D Of course.

I hate running errands.

September 30th, 2003 · 3 Comments

It takes too long. But at least I got lots of things out of the way.

I bought the discount tickets for Lilac and me to go to Pirates tomorrow. I went to Office Max and picked up a photo mailer and other mailing supplies to send out the t-shirts. Then I went to Best Buy and bought the new Adventures of Robin Hood DVD that came out today. It’s wonderful. Hooray for Errol Flynn! I think I need to watch Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk again as well. Anyway, then I went to the Post Office and mailed my Nimbus pics to Mellie and the long-promised hot chocolate to Teri. I’m tired now, though.

New Gilmore Girls tonight! Yay!

The Nimbus Ship Debate Transcript.

Okay, reading that is SCARY for me.

Thanks so much to Zorb for taping, transcribing, and posting it for your reading pleasure.

The tape recorder cut out during my closing statement. Unfortunately, my mind has almost completely blanked out on the whole episode, so I honestly can’t remember what else I said. We also, unfortunately, don’t get Athena’s closing statement. But the rest of it is there.

Please keep the snark to a minimum in comments to this post. If you want to be snarky, e-mail me. Thanx.

And a big THANK YOU to everyone for your comments on my last post. You guys are great.

So I got bad news today.

September 25th, 2003 · 4 Comments

I lost my job.

Sudden, eh?

Just wait.

I was informed at 4:00 that the division no longer has the budget to pay my salary. And that today was my last day. Bye-bye. So long. Farewell.

They were very sorry about it all. Very apologetic. I could tell that they felt bad about having to let me go so suddenly. It was an unlucky combination of circumstances, most of which didn’t surface until today. I don’t blame them at all.

Still, it was kind of a shock. I knew it was temporary, but I thought I’d at least have ’till October 14, when the person I was subbing for came back from her FMLA leave. But it was not to be.

I forgot my badge today, so I couldn’t turn it in. I’ll be going in tomorrow to give it to them and pick up my paycheck. I’ll have one more coming.

Five weeks of working full time is better than not working at all, I suppose. But I liked it there, and I liked the people I worked with, so I’m rather sad about it all.

On the plus side, I can now work on my fic. I can finish that editing project that has been gnawing at my conscience.

And I can stay up late chatting with and again. So it’s not such a terrible thing.

*sigh* Back to submitting resumes. I despise job hunting.

Various stuff

September 25th, 2003 · 2 Comments

First off:

Happy Birthday, Krista!!!!

Happy birthday to that talented filker, organizer of SQUIRT, wearer of lilac robes, adorer of Gilderoy Lockhart, Divine Mum, and all-around wonderful person, !

In other news, I let slip to my coworkers the existence of my blog. I now have to be very careful about what I say about them. :) Hi, Tania, if you’re reading this.

My cold has decided to dig in for the long haul, apparently. Luckily the only thing bothering me right now is how stuffed up I am, and my voice is still a couple of tones lower than usual. I’m gonna take a decongestant on my break.

Debbie, one of my coworkers, is in Disneyland right now. I hope she’s having fun.

The Gilmore Girls season premiere was on Tuesday, and for once the previews didn’t lie– much. The WB is the worst at manipulating scenes to make it look like things happen that don’t. Anyway, the previews said that Luke got married over the summer, which he did– but they also realized it was a mistake the next morning and are getting a divorce. So Luke is still free! I’m not holding my breath for the next one, though– the preview implied that Lorelai asks Luke on a date. But like I said, the WB lies, and their previews are not to be trusted.

Last night was the West Wing season premiere as well. And darn them if they didn’t still leave us hanging. Jerks. At least we only have to wait for a week to find out what happens.

Well, BAX to work. Bah.

Blah some more

September 23rd, 2003 · No Comments

Stayed home from WORX today, both because I feel terrible and because I don’t want to give anyone this dratted cold. It’s just the kind of sickness where you feel halfway decent when you’re laying down, and start to think that you’re being a big ninny and should have gone to work after all, and then you stand up and get hit with the full fury of it.

So I’m using this time to catch up on stuff I should have done ages ago. Betaing Jen’s fic. Doing some of my editing. Reading up on Victorian England for my Dumbledore fic.

And playing a few internet games. Am shameless. :P

I. Feel. TERRIBLE.

Both my parents were sick this weekend. I took care of them.

And now I think I’ve caught my mom’s cold.

It actually feels a lot like that upper respiratory thing I got right after Nimbus. Must have taken this long for the bug to travel from Florida to Utah. Sore throat, runny nose, achy body. And I feel. . .cold. :P REALLY cold.

I wonder if I can leave work early. :P

Long-overdue Update

September 21st, 2003 · 2 Comments

Sorry I haven’t updated. I just haven’t been in the mood. Don’t know why.

Friday was incredibly busy. Had two co-workers call in sick– one in each of my jobs. Plus my other coworker is still out because of her broken ankle. That left only me on the switchboard. Little old me, not been there for a month even, and still VERY uncertain about my job. I thought I was going to go mad. Luckily it was Friday, and it wasn’t nearly as busy as it has been earlier in the week. Still, it was busy enough to cause me a great deal of stress. And the fact that Adele needed me too made it that much worse. You see, Judy was going out of town for the week, so we were already down one person in our unit. Then Carol called in sick. And to make matters worse, one of the Prelitgation panels that Judy was supposed to prepare for didn’t get prepared. Not only was it not on the schedule, none of the paperwork had been made for it– and the FILE HAD DISAPPEARED. Here we had doctors, and lawyers, and chair people, who are all getting paid by us, and we had NOTHING to give them. We searched high and low, and couldn’t find it. As of 4:30 on Friday, we still hadn’t found it. They limped along as well as they could– I’m sure the lawyers had thought to bring evidence with them. But it was still a disaster.

Got my hair cut on Saturday. Is now about 3 1/2 inches shorter, which seems kind of drastic but doesn’t actually make that much difference when my hair was as long as it was. It’s still about halfway down my back.

Went to the BYU game. We were robbed. I know, I know, we could have played better. Our offense is still young– especially our quaterback, who is a true freshman. Not that he got any help from the offensive line. Gave him no pass protection whatsoever. But the refs were incredibly bad. Handed the game to Stanford on a silver platter.

Have been thinking about waxing philosophical about internet friendships. But will have to wait for later. :P

Still having Y!M issues. They’re spreading just slightly to AIM, but nowhere near as bad as with Y!M. I just don’t get it. If it’s not Y!M, it must be something w/ my connection. But on BOTH computers? I don’t get it.

Very sad about GT. Even sadder because it’s all because of ended friendships. *sigh*

Oh, and according to this quiz gacked from Angua, I am 78% obsessed with Harry Potter.

Mellie, I want to see what *your* score is. :P

Good News, Bad News

September 17th, 2003 · 2 Comments

Good News: I now have Ginny BAX, relatively unscathed (as far as I can tell). Would do happy dance of joy if I didn’t have her on my lap. :) I can now IM while upstairs, in bed, watching TV, anywhere I want.

Bad News: My Y!M is acting up so badly that there’s almost no point in trying to talk to anyone. :(
