C-c-c-cold. F-f-f-freezing c-c-c-cold.

May 27th, 2004 · No Comments

My office is always cold. I think that’s usual for offices– I’ve never worked in one that isn’t. And the library at BYU was cold, too. I get used to bringing a jacket to work and just leaving it there. But it’s been even colder for the past few days, because it’s been cold and rainy outside, and without the sun to offset the overachieving air conditioning, it’s absolutely freezing. I’ve brought a can of Stephen’s hot chocolate with me (hazelnut), and I’ve already had one cup this morning and am contemplating another. Am also considering putting the hood up on my sweatshirt to keep my precious heat from escaping through my head. I’d look like a complete dork, but since I work in an office that almost no one looks into, I don’t really care. (As an aside, why are hoodies so popular when no one ever uses the hood? It’s like, having a hood is cool, but using one is dorky. I don’t get it.)

And the saddest thing is that I watched the weather last night, and it was supposed to be WARM today. Like, 80! Instead it’s 53 degrees outside (Wahleecon folks, don’t say I didn’t warn you to bring a jacket and long pants) and about the same in here.

Brr.

It never rains but it pours. . .

My great-uncle Fay passed away yesterday morning. His funeral is set for Friday– the same day as Grandma Jarman’s. My mom (whose uncle it is), is torn between going to her uncle’s funeral or my father’s grandmother’s.

Deaths come in threes, right? So we’re done for the year, right?

*sigh* This was not the opportune moment.

Hilarious HP Parody song

May 24th, 2004 · 1 Comment

My friend Nicole sent this to me– she knows all about my obsession, you see. Anyway, a local male A Cappella group called Moosebutter has a free download of their parody song “Harry Potter” available for download here. It’s actually quite funny, and very well done. I don’t agree with their shipping (one of the lines is “When are you going to marry Hermione?” :P ) but it’s still amusing nonetheless.

Also try the “faux British version”, where all these guys from Utah use fake cockney accents. Quite amusing.

I sent this in to TLC, but who knows if they’ll post it or not, since they’re quite busy otherwise. :P

Well.

My last remaining great-grandmother passed away late last night, very peacefully. She celebrated her 100th birthday in September.

We’ll certainly miss her, but it’s hard to be too sad when such a woman passes on. She loved her family, and lived a rich, full life. To her very last minute, she lived in her own home. She was the sweetest woman you’ll ever meet, and I feel privileged to have known her.

The funeral will probably be on Wednesday, maybe Thursday. It depends on whether various grandchildren living out of state will be able to come or not.

The person I’m most worried about in all of this is my grandmother, who has now lost both her husband and her mother in a matter of months. This is going to be rough.

Camera pics!

Click on the thumbnail to bring up the full-sized pic.

view1.jpg
The view from my office window. See why I get hardly any work done?

view2.jpg
A closeup of the Oquirrh mountains. The tan-colored mounds of dirt are from the Kennecott Copper mine– the largest pit mine in the world. I sometimes wonder what the mountains looked like before Kennecott got to them.

Another closeup of the mountains.

The wall next to my computer. :D

Just for Angua– a pic of the page for today.

And the piece de resistance: a Quicktime movie of the view from the lunchroom of the Wasatch mountains. Ignore the people you can see reflected in the windows. ;) It’s kind of big, sorry. I don’t have QT Pro, so I don’t think I can make it any smaller.

Hee. That was fun.

May 20th, 2004 · No Comments

ME! That’s who! I’ve been playing around, but haven’t taken any upload-worthy pictures yet. I’m going to take my camera to worx tomorrow and take some pics of the view, so you can see them soon!

It’s small and cute and expensive and I LOVE IT. :D

Okay. Going to play some more.

So. This icon?

May 18th, 2004 · No Comments

SPOILER ALERT.

Obsolete. Must get screencaps of tonight’s episode and make a new icon.

That was amazing.

Better than I ever could have imagined.

Wow.

But, Rory slept with Dean. He’s married.

Not good.

And now I have to wait until AUGUST to find out how all this will shake out. Grr.

Must watch that kiss again.

Yay!

I ordered my birthday present yesterday. It’ll ship tomorrow. I paid for ground shipping, which would have taken 10 days, but they bumped me up to 3-day shipping instead. So I could conceivably have it by the weekend!

I’m getting a Nikon Coolpix 4300 digital camera. I ordered it, after a lot of research to make sure they wouldn’t rip me off, from Butterfly Photo. The price was the lowest I could find online. They require you to call them after you place your order–they call it a Security Check, but it’s really just a ploy to get you to buy accessories. Which I actually ended up buying, as the accessory package was also a good deal (I considered getting it at the beginning, but since I knew I’d have to do the phone call, I decided to wait until I could ask some questions about the stuff that was included). After the Nikon $50 mail-in rebate, I’ll be within my $350 budget, including the extra battery, 256k memory card, camera bag and lens cleaning kit that came with my package. Not bad for a highly-rated 4 Megapixel camera, eh?

I’m very excited. Jordan Commons has a wireless computer network set up, so if I bring Ginny to Wahleecon, I could concievably post pics practically real-time, to make all you people jealous who couldn’t come. ;)

So excited!

ETA: Can’t wait to see my icon *points to the right menu* come true tonight! Squee!
