Because of the eucalyptus oil that I can’t get off of them. Yes, it was another floral design lab today. My gift basket is lovely. Pics coming up. For the flowers in the vase, I wanted to do Ravenclaw blue, but unfortunately that idea didn’t pan out. Everything that was in the blue-spectrum looked really purple to me, especially the filler flowers. So instead I went for Hogwarts colors. I have a dark blue Ravenclaw iris, a yellow Hufflepuff rose, a red Gryffindor carnation, a couple of sprigs of spiral eucalyptus and lots of leatherleaf fern to supply the Slytherin green, with a bit of baby’s breath for filler (which, incidentally, is a primary color scheme, also known as a foundation color scheme, also known as a triadic color scheme). It looks lovely next to my hardbound copy of Sorcerer’s Stone, SS DVD, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Penelope Clearwater doll, Hogwarts CD case, cobalt blue glass and brass inkwell, quill, and wand.

Very few true blues. Delphinium, spelled wrong but you know what I’m talking about. Comes in several shades of blue ranging from lite blue to the purplish you just mentioned. For a Ravenclaw Blue try blue Hydrangea. Comes in shades from white/pink to blue/purple. Your best bet! Also hard to get and very expensive in a floral quality but lilac also comes in a shade of blue. Veronica is considered a wildflower and thus is not used in “fancy store” arrangements but when I could get it I’d use it because it’s a big tall center focal flower. Good for height. Cornflower (bachelor button) also comes in blue but their stems are short and hard to use in floral foam. Last is wild chicory. Definitely in blue but technically a weed. Clematis is a climbing vine but the blue of its flower is incredible. Could be used for corsages, though I never tried it myself.
Don’t use dried eucaliptus in any type of a floral arangement. Color will bleed into water and onto other plants. Stick with fresh. Seeded eucaliptus comes in a burgandy/red that made great Gryffindore colors.

Yes. Unfortunately, we don’t get a choice in what flowers are available for lab. So I had to make do with what I had.
The eucalyptus was fresh, hence the stuff all over my hands from stripping the foliage below the water line.
Delphinium was spelled just right.
No hurry on the books.

Bluebonnets would work, but those are difficult to acquire.

I’ve wanted a true blue flower for the garden. Most of the garden blues are closer to purple. One year, quite a while ago, I say a sky-blue petunia at Lagoon. I’ve since looked every year in catalogs for seeds, for a similar variety, and found nothing.
I would question my sanity (which some do anyway) if I hand’t seen it with my own eyes once.

I should also tell you that I’ve been listening to the soundtrack CD of “The Importance of Being Earnest.” Track 19, which was played under the closing credits, is an absolute HOOT! What a kick to hear two English actors who can’t sing worth a lick, really belt it out, Come Down!!!
“I think your high notes may have damanged our chances old boy. You do want them to come down don’t you?”
“Well she’s never going to come down with you singing like that. You’re completely out of tune!”
“How dare you.”
“I’ll take this bit.”
“You leave this to me. You go and have a lie down old man.”
“No, I’ll take this bit.”
“Out of my way! I’m coming through!”
“Go easy my dear fellow.”
And then Colin (AKA Mr. Darcy) really lets loose!

I think it was from Sally and Mike. They must have called your mother. I’ll bet they couldn’t believe that I would even have watched a movie like that, let alone want the soundtrack. But the music is quite well done I think! Oh well, my own brothers and sister have never understood me.
